BRNO – Moravian Karst – Punkva Caves – P2

Punkva cave –

The Moravian Karst is the biggest and most significant karst region in the Czech Republic. Its attractions include several subterranean areas, with the greatest interest traditionally being in the Punkva Caves, where, apart from cathedrals of stalagmites and stalactites, you can also visit the bottom of Macocha Abyss and take a boat along the subterranean Punkva River.

The caves are located in the Pustý žleb canyon, 2 km from the tourist information centre and Skalní mlýn restaurant upstream along the Punkva river. If you don’t want to walk, you can take the tourist train from the mill. The journey, which lasts about an hour, leads through massive rock cathedrals decorated with stalagmites and stalactites to the bottom of Macocha Abyss, continuing with a motorboat journey along the deep, greenish waters of the subterranean Punkva river. The journey is interrupted for a visit to the Masaryk cathedral, one of the most beautiful subterranean spaces in the Moravian Karst.

A visit to the bottom of Macocha Abyss is a stunning experience for big and small. The Abyss reaches a depth of nearly 140 metres. The lower lake that can be seen at the bottom of the Abyss, however, is forty metres deeper! You can also look into Machocha from above, from two lookout bridges. Leave the Punkva Caves via a cable car (the only one in South Moravia!) then walk back to Skalní mlýn.

To enjoy Punkva, you need to walk and need to climb at places. The interesting piece of Punkva Cave is the Eye View in the Middle and the boat ride in the deep.

It will take 15 to 20 min to reach Skalni Mlyn from Blansko. From Skalni Mlyn, you would need to take toy train to reach Punka Caves . It just 10 min from Skalni Mlyn.

Note : If you are travelling on a weekend, remember , bus frequency is very limited .

You can also book a cab from brno, but it would be expensive, so the choice is yours as I would suggest to go by Public transport.

Punkva caves

The Punkva Caves are part of Large Cave System created by Water courses that have flowed for millenia from the North in the karstified limestone region. These streams are in fact tributaries of the subterranean punka reiver and bila voda stream. It was these which cut out the Amateurs cave system to a length of 35KM.

Lessons Learned through this Phase –

Time –

Give time ” Sometime ” . No matter what , life is NOT a movie to expect a solution for our problem in the next scene. It takes it’s time to teach you the lesson that needs to be learned.

Patience –

One of the key lessons that I learned from this experience is PATIENCE . There are moments where I felt depressed and thought of going back to India, but the situation tightens it too by restricting the flight operations. All I did was just waited for my turn .

Boundary –

Play the game with in the boundary , meaning I don’t have much options other than to surrender in Czech and it forced me to look for all options available with in this country . When the option to India is ruled out, I started thinking the available options in Czech on what I can do .

Survival –

I was thinking that If you don’t know a Language, it is IMPOSSIBLE to survive in that place where that language is being spoken by Majority . I realized, it is just an illusion . In this situation, we tried to learn the basics of Czech for Communication 🙂 , Of course it helped us in Supermarkets 🙂

Courage –

The best and easiest way to solve all our problems is to FACE THEM with Courage, else we will be forced to feel the situation with Pressure 🙂 .

Thinking out of box –

when we are pushed, we tend to think differently.  When I was locked, my mind was in a spin loop and thoughts were in a same place. When we started thinking out of box on what we can do for survival, that moment is the trigger where things slowly fallen in place . I personally felt it when we tried to make food with only very few available cooking vessels 🙂 .

English is Just a LANGUAGE –

Last but not least and my favorite , The very first lesson I learned here is ” English ” is just a language and it’s OK to say don’t know if you don’t know to speak . No one think bad about it as they simply speak and respect their language and NEVER feel bad about saying they don’t know and they don’t think it as a KNOWLEDGE. I also see ENGLISH IS ILLOGICAL, the pronunciation doesn’t matter and no body care about grammar while speaking in English . There is NOTHING called right or wrong pronunciation when it comes to English. Each country has a way to speak. Just speak the way you like and Enjoy 🙂

Czech Republic – Brno – Sequence of Events – P7

Cargo update –

Plenty of events happened Parallelly for us that includes an another add-on Pressure that , Cargo got struck up in Prague . The agent in India wasn’t able to do anything and finally told us to go to Prague to clear the customs. As I said, the situation was already intense here nothing really we could do. During the month of March, I remember the COVID cases in Prague was in huge numbers and people suggested NOT to travel to Prague by car booking as other options are ruled out.

I told my team lead and Manager to spoke to the Customs office to know the exact information on why it got trapped. They told it is very difficult to clear the customs in this situation and told that it will not be cleared due to some missing information and they decided to send it back to India. Almost close to 25 days, I tried my level best to make them understand my situation , but it didn’t work. Finally they sent it back to India and you guys don’t believe me, till today the Cargo is not cleared in India due to Lock-down and for other reasons .

During all these days, we fall sick multiple times due to food , Jetlag and faced other issues as well. We tried even to consult the doctor, but getting an appointment with doctor is a real challenge. We some how managed with the available medicines , hot water and Cumin water. There are times, our International debit card doesn’t worked for couple of days.

At-last after 40 days, in our new Apartment, I received the debit card and we are able to spend the money . As our cargo was negative, I tried ordering some Cooking vessels in Amazon and it failed too with returning the money to the account 😦 . Some how from the month of September, things started falling in place. I was able to get the orders processed and receive them.

We faced three different situations with respect to Money, First, we don’t have Local Debit card and Money , then we have money but don’t have the card to spend and the last , we had debit card and money, but unable to spend the money 🙂 lol 🙂 , because of the situation plenty of orders were not processed and returned 🙂

The reason for sharing my experience is , lock-down is generic , but I thought lock-down in a new country is an unique experience.

I will conclude the series with the lessons learned through this phase

Czech Republic – Brno – Sequence of Events – P6

Salary date –

Due to plenty of confusion happened before, I was in an assumption that, my salary date should be 30 or 31st, but later in a meeting with the manager and came to know that , the salary date cycle is 10th of every month. It was like “”God”” , another 15 days , I will have to manage without local currency and my friend told me that, he will send money to the Czech Bank account. But interesting check here was , I can’t take money from the account and don’t remember the reason they said about Cash withdrawal from the Bank .

Twist in the Middle –

With the financial crisis and the above stated confusions, you guys don’t believe me, an interesting twist happened in the middle , The apartment was finalized 🙂 . The interesting fact I wanted to share here was, In Chennai while searching the Apartments in BRNO in a website , I found the same apartment , I liked it as it was so good , but not to prefer it because of the fact that it was a costly and huge advance Apartment .

The owner talked to us on the Video call , showed us the flat because of people movement restrictions & agreed for my dates to move and they were flexible too. It was the moment , I realized, REALITY IS STRANGER THAN FICTION 🙂 . To my surprise the owner reduced the advance and talked fluently in English.

They said, they traveled to India before and they are aware of few cities including Chennai . When we said, we are from Chennai, they felt very happy. With all those surprises, now we don’t have any room to rethink and decided to finalize.

Saviour –

Now , the most crucial part is Agency fees and advance settlement that needs to be settled before moving to the Apartment that includes first month rent. The whole amount came close to 70K CZK . A Saviour came in the panorama who saved us from this crucial situation is Bharath(My Friend), who settled the amount for me. IT WAS REALLY A GREAT , TIMELY AND CRUCIAL HELP. I REALLY DON’T HAVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT.

If he wouldn’t have helped us , our situation would have been more worse. We decided to settle all the transaction online , Bharath was included in our email communication chains and he transferred the money. When you have your Apartment settled in a new country , at-least it gives us a room to think about other issues one by one. It was a great relief for us when it was settled , as all the credits should go to Bharath !!!

Some how we managed for another 15 days , finally my salary got credited, As I Said, there was a delay in sending the new debit card . I have the salary, but can’t take it 🙂 .
